Jerry devoted over 30 years of his life serving his community as a firefighter with the El Paso Fire Department. He loved his job deeply and retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 1998. His passion for firefighting did not end with retirement; instead, it evolved into teaching and mentorship. Jerry continued to serve by educating future firefighters at the El Paso Fire Department Training Academy and by teaching Fire Technology at El Paso Community College, leaving a lasting impact on generations of firefighters.
As a skilled woodworker, Jerry combined his craftsmanship with his love for the fire service by designing and handcrafting the "Fireman’s Last Alarm", a meaningful tribute signifying a firefighter’s end of service. In a fitting tribute, the "Fireman's Last Alarm" Jerry created will be chimed at his own service.
Jerry was always happy, loved his coffee, and never missed a chance to enjoy a good meal. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit were felt by everyone who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters: Tammy Matthews (David), Wanda Gandara (Ralph), and Sherry Aranda (Jose); six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nona “Sissy” Hudson; his twin brother, Terry Dan Hudson; and his parents.
Jerry Don Hudson lived a life of service, love, and dedication—to his family, his profession, and his community. His legacy will continue to ring on in the hearts of those he taught, served beside, and loved.
