as one of his old students, I dearly cared about him so much and he helped me with math and now I remember all because of Mr Reyes. Im so happy he got his masters, I really wanted to see him again in the future but I know one day I can see him again in heaven, rest in peace Mr Reyes.. and I made a card when I moved on to 5th grade, I hope he still kept it..

Kiara Smith- Hello, I used to be one of Mr reyes kids, I was part if his FIRST class there!! Im very sorry for your loss guys, Im real sad too im not being sarcastic sorry i dont know how to write my feelings!!. I miss him and I was kinda planning on meeting him as a surprise but then he passed.. so.. Im in highschool now, crazy how time passes, its like yesterday I was in his class joking with him and laughing. LLJ!!

But then when my mom told me the news I wanted to cry, but I didn’t believe her because you’re so young and I never expected for you to pass the day I went to school and just walking in the room gives me chills because it feels different without you and I miss all our memories like since the day I met you I knew that you were gonna be a fun and nice teacher you can tell from the beginning that you’re already like piped up I will miss you

Joel, I’m still in disbelief  that you're not here, rather you sit in God’s presence. I pray that God brings peace and comfort to your family, and strengthens all the people you touched in this life to come to terms with losing you. You were always such a caring, friendly, understanding man, and you cared so much about your students. Work is not the same without you, everyone misses you. Rest in Peace.

From the day I met you to the day you left I could always tell that you were a good person even on are highs and lows you were happy you were one of the only people that gave me so many good memories your students including me will always miss you forever.   Your legacy will always live.

He was a great friend from Bowie. He was the smartest and always willing to help solve anything. Condolences to his family and loved ones, he was a great human being with a kind soul.

Hi Vanessa Gonzalez I am a fifth grade student Crockett elementary I just wanted to say that for Mr. Reyes Family , I’m sorry for your loss. You lost him Nadia, your husband Josue, your dad Natalia, your dad, Maria Elena, your son I’m sorry for all of your loss and The last thing I wanted to say is that just stay together with your family Hug them kiss them love them cause you never know when they’re not gonna be there for you. That’s all I have to say and we will miss Mr. Reyes a lot goodbye.

From Charlie: He was an amazing teacher and made going to school worth it. Even though he’s not there at school anymore his spirit will always be there watching over us. 
Mrs. Sophie: Mr. Reyes once told me that he had a hard time keeping plants but he loved having them. I had the perfect plant for him. It’s called Mother of Thousands. It signified his love for teaching and care for his students. I gave it to him last year and it’s still thriving in his classroom. What an amazing individual that I was lucky enough to share space with. Thank you for everything.

I only had the privilege of working with Mr. Reyes for a few months. In that time, I learned what a dedicated educator and wonderful person he was. I always enjoyed visiting his class because his students were always so engaged and happy! We will all feel the void from this loss for a long time to come, but Mr.  Reyes’ legacy will live on in the Crockett community.

Mr Reyes was not one of my home room teachers but a amazing drama teacher who will allways be remembered as a person who had a soul and passion for Disney one time I went in his room he had a giant rack of Disney he was the teacher in front of my class I had all my hopes up he was gonna come out the hospital but when I found out he passed I was heartbroken we will all miss you Mr Reyes have a good life in heaven

My son Noah is devastated and heartbroken to lose such an amazing and loving teacher.  Noah loved him and enjoyed being a part of his class. He will always be one of Noah's favorite teachers. Noah is blessed to have had the privilege of knowing him. 

Thank you Mr. Reyes for caring for my son the way that you did.

4th grade, I remember the first P/T conference when you said, “ by the end of that school year, my daughter will probably make you cry because she was doing well from when she started” you were proud of her and positive. Thank you for believing and in the end, you made us proud and “we are the ones crying”  🙏 🤍

Every year your passion for teaching showed greatly.  You built confidence in the lives of many. Students and their families were truly blessed because I know we were, as you listened, taught, laughed, and loved those around you. Let’s not forget “repeat” the next day. We will miss you Mr Reyes you were the best teacher I’ve ever had. You are funny and would joke around a lot, you helped me when I was struggling with my reading and writing. I will never forget you when I found out I was shock and started crying no matter what I still cried I remember when we played bingo and everyone would get mad because someone would get bingo and the last time I ever saw you was when parent teacher conferences when my brother had to go we talked about how I had advisory now and how weird it was being inside the school. I will forever miss you you’ll never be forgotten you were the best teacher

Mr. Reyes, from the first time I met you during the summer in your classroom, I could already feel the positive vibe you had, but once that classroom was filled with your students, your love and passion for teaching was undeniable. You gave everything you had, every single day. Your attention to detail and knowledgeable insight, made you a great colleague and leader on our campus. Your presence and laughter filled our hallways at Crockett Elementary. Lastly, you are and will always be an invaluable member of our Longhorn HERD.  Thank you for the memories. 💛🖤🤘🏻

You were destiny’s favorite teacher and you helped her grow so much, thanks to you she fell in love with drama and also with math. Thank you for caring about her education when everyone looked past it, thank you for being such caring and amazing teacher. We will miss you.

I had the priviledge of working alongside Joel. I remember the four of us here made a great team together. We would sit at lunch to talk about our day, our lessons, our next Halloween group costume, about our dogs, our families, life, and just about anything. He was a great friend and colleague, always willing to help, especially with technology! He was always smiling, making us laugh, and always with a positive attitude. 

Your students loved you and they still do! Thank you for all those fun times and great memories. You will be dearly missed!

My daughter fell in love with drama and Mr. Reyes helped give her confidence and pushed her. He was and will always be one of her favorite Teachers.

Mr. Reyes you will forever be remembered as the coworker that always lent a hand and helped in any way possible. Always doing more. We didn’t work too closely but the time I spent with you, I saw the amazing person and team player you were. I know your students will miss you deeply. You will be missed Fly high!
