I went to law school with John. We sat near each other in some classes. We commiserated and laughed together. Thanks to him for being a good man at that young age and I see that others saw that quality in him throughout the years that followed. I know his family and friends still hurt at the loss and I'm sorry for that loss. I will remember his humor and that he made us laugh when we were so exhausted, overworked and overwhelmed in school. He was part of what made that experience so special. Thanks for letting us get to know him a bit. 

To the family, friends and co-workers of John Batoon

My heart felt condolences and sympathies for the passing of the great John Batoon. John was admired, loved and respected by his lawyer peers. His kindness and fellowship were second to none and he set a high bar for those of us still in the profession. When I joined the City Attorney's office in the late 80s, John had recently left to join the Diamond Rash Leslie Smith firm where he would go on to become an expert in Indian law among other areas. John left an enormous legacy at City Hall and the legend of him filled the corridors long after he left. 

John was a tremendous resource and was always available to help a colleague with any issue. 

 John made this world better by replenishing it with constant love, kindness, generosity, compassion and understanding. All overlaid of course with that tremendous sense of humor.  John was a true renaissance man and was a fantastic conversationalist and could engage  on any topic. But it was always his love of family and friends and his unyielding sense of humor and unmatched warmth that were so distinct with him and made him such an unforgettable person. 

I know I speak for a generation of El Paso lawyers who wish to thank John for the professionalism he displayed to us all, setting an example of how it really needs to be done. John did it all and with such class.

John may you rest in peace my friend and may God Bless his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched with all that kindness.

John was my brother Omar's little league baseball coach. He and his family were also great  friends of ours. I have great memories going to youth sport end of season swim parties at their house. Although it has been many years since I have seen John, I remember him as such a fun loving caring person. He cared deeply for his family and friends. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to Laura, Danny, Matty, and Nathan.

Funny guy John was! Great sense of humor! John loved to show off photos of his Grandson anytime I stopped by for court, he was very proud of all of his kids and loved his Grand-baby very much!  Gone too soon my friend! Fly with Angels, I 'll be seeing you! :) 

My condolences to the Batoon family.  John brought a sense of calm and kinship to the City Attorney's Office.  I fondly recall John's attendance at staff meetings, which had some tense moments,   but he brought a smile and levity (generally at his own expense with self-deprecating humor or by sharing stories and photos of his beloved grandchildren).  John's humility and sense of humor were greatly appreciated in the City Attorney's Office and will be missed. 

My deepest condolence to your family John,  you are a gifted, talented  man and a great storyteller.  I always new it was going to be a good one when it’s started out...”Hey Nick did I ever tell you about.....”.  Rest now my friend, you will be missed.

Wow. I remember asking Mr. Batoon if he planned on retiring anytime soon just before I retired and he said he still had a few years to go.  He's relaxing with the angels, healthy and strong. RIP Mr. Batoon. God give your family much faith and strength during this difficult time.
