

John William Carpenter (“Coach”) passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010. John was born in Pyote, Texas on February 1, 1945 to Mary Hudson Carpenter and William Elmo Carpenter. He was raised in Pecos where he graduated from Pecos High School and played both football and baseball. John was a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso. He began his coaching career at Irvin High School where he coached wrestling and football. John went on to teach and coach at El Paso Coronado, Fabens, Lubbock Coronado, Van Horn, Tuloso Midway, Canutillo, Burges and back to Coronado where he ended his career as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach. John was a long time member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. He severed on the advisory committee for baseball for the T.H.S.C.A from 1999-2000. John was Region 1 Director for the T.H.S.B.C.A from 2000-2002 and the All Star 5A coach in 2002 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. He coached for Senior Team Texas from 2000-2005. John was preceded in death by both his parents and infant son, John Brian. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Rogers Carpenter, and sons Christopher and Casey. He was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. Pallbearers: Joe Ray Halsey, John Curry, Aaron Bourland, Robert Osborn, Nate Poss, Michael Quarles, and Mark Farrel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Woods, Gary Holt, Ken Parker, and Johnny McFarlin. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Westside Church of Christ, 100 Crestmont Dr. at Mesa. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of The Valley.
