

Joseph Neil Kidd, M.D., formerly of El Paso, Tx, passed away peacefully after a short illness with his wife and children by his side. He was born in Kingsville, Tx October 1, 1942 to John Henry Kidd and Jospephine Pate Kidd. Joseph married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon Smith, in 1961. They were married for 63 years until his passing. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Baylor University in 1964. He then received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1968. Joseph completed his surgical internship in 1969, followed by 2 years in the US Indian Public Health Service, where he served in Fort Defiance, AZ as a surgeon. He returned with his family to Houston, TX for his General Surgery Residency under Dr. Michael E. DeBakey. Joseph then proceeded to do a Cardiothoracic and Vascular fellowship for two years under Dr. Denton A. Cooley. He was recruited by Sam D. Young, Sr. of El Paso National Bank to open his practice at Providence Memorial Hospital in 1976. His career expanded to include all the major El Paso hospitals, including Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss, during which he touched thousands of hearts and lives. Joseph lived with his wife in Edmonds, WA until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Kendle Elizabeth Kidd. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Kidd, and his two children, Melanie Kidd Kuechle, MD, and Joseph Neil Kidd Jr, MD, as well as nine grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at The Church of St. Clement, 810 N Campbell St., El Paso TX, 79902 at 2:00 p.m., Saturday August 3, 2024.
