

Joseph Anthony Simon, Jr., 89, passed away February 14, 2018 after recovering from a hip fracture in December and multiple health afflictions. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, March 14, 1928. He served in the United States Navy, Air Force and Reserves. Joe was a longtime member of the VFW and well-known in the downtown area. After the military he worked in the movie industry in San Antonio. He later returned to El Paso and became Manager of The Movie One Inc. company overseeing The Plaza Theatre, Capri, State, Palace, Lomaland Drive-In and Montwood 7.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Simon Sr., mother Lucy O’Malley (Martin), and sister Mary Haggerty (Charles). Joe is survived by his wife Guadalupe Simon, four children Lori Acosta (Mando), Andrea Sa (Jeff), Katy Carson (David), and Matthew Simon; nine grandchildren Nick Maldonado, Loretta Menchey (Joey), Valerie Ayala (Matt), Holly and David Veilleux, Karen Kahle (Cody), Kellie Trent (Tyler), Melodee Simon, and Austin Sa; seven great-grandchildren Brianna, Desiree, Natalia, Zoe and Chloe Menchey, Matthew Ayala and Jase Kahle; and niece Patricia Haggerty.
