

Joseph John Werthmann, Sr., Age 93 passed away on November 23, 2013 surrounded by his family. Joseph was a life-long resident of El Paso, Texas and graduated from El Paso High School. He served in the 3009th Army Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. Joe worked for both Southern Pacific Railroad and Texaco Refinery where he retired after 36 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Werthmann and his siblings, Henry Werthmann and Margaret Islas. Joseph is survived by his wife, Lillian G. Werthmann and his children Dr. Cecilia Hawkins (Tom), Lillian A. Werthmann, Joseph John Werthmann, Jr, (Nancy), and Virginia Werthmann and survived by his siblings Bertha Corona and Mary Knapp. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lorig Hawkins, Sibley Hawkins, Laura Werthmann, Melissa Werthmann, Gabriela Werthmann, Andrew Werthmann and Matias Werthmann. Joe was a loving father and grandfather and the quintessential soul mate to his wife- he never wanted to be away from her side.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Remembrance and Vigil Service from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Harding-Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home, 320 Montana Avenue El Paso, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N. Mesa El Paso, Texas with an interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery 4848 Alps Dr. El Paso, Texas. Active Pallbearers include David Castro, Memo Rojas, Tony Islas, Arnold Esparza and Augustin Hinojos. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Richard Gonzalez, Raul Gonzalez, Fred Knapp, and Thomas Hawkins. The family wishes to thank all those who tenderly cared for him in his final months. Services entrusted to Harding - Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home.
