Julie Mackenzie, age 61 gained her wings in style and grace on October 6, 2024. She was born on June 20, 1963, in El Paso, Texas to Antonio & Margarita Romero. She married the love of her life, Juan Mackenzie in 1998.
Julie loved people and parties. She never met a stranger and said hello to everyone - especially those she felt needed a smile the most. She danced when the room needed an energy shift, and made instruments out of whatever she could get her hands on. She loved every variety of potatoes, but especially twice-baked ones.
She graduated High School in Clint, Texas where she was in the Marching & Class A Honor Band mastering the clarinet. As a lady who LOVED big hair, perfect lipstick, and making others feel good about themselves she graduated from Tri-State Beauty School in 1982.
While she spent many years transforming hairdos, her experience in the beauty space really changed the world when she began offering haircuts, manicures & pedicures to the elderly community in Horizon, Texas. Her house visits, camaraderie, support, care, and generosity transformed the hearts of many El Pasoans in their final days on earth.
When Juan and Julie met, their bond led them to entrepreneurship as a means to spend more time in one another’s presence. This duo took on many quirky ventures as long as it meant they could do it together. Their life's mission was to care for each other, their health, and their community.
This duo not only spent most of their days arm in arm, they also enjoyed time on their Harley-Davidsons seeking adventure, travel, and time committed to charitable causes.
Julie delved into the study of holistic health & transformed her family & community's outlook on nutrition, emotional healing, and everything in between. She organized free classes in her living room to teach and invite El Pasoans to find ways to heal their lives the way God intended, starting with his gifts from Earth. On weekends you’d find her at parks and festivals, sharing homemade soaps, and essential oil blends and doing what made her soul sing - making new friends.
Even in her Cancer diagnosis, Julie led by choosing the path least traveled. Julie believed that the human body is a miracle and was unwavering in her mission to seek treatment to support her body in healing naturally.
Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
Julie is survived by her soulmate & caretaker Juan Mackenzie and two children Amanda Paredes and Ian Mackenzie; parents Antonio and Margarita Romero; four siblings Sandy (Frank), Tony, Javier (Lisa), and Chris; plus many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
On Wednesday October 23, 2024, The family will be Celebrating Julie's Life by not wearing black attire and invite you to do the same.
