Mae was born March 6, 1930 in Derry, New Mexico to Genaro and Bita Lara.
Mae graduated from Hatch High School in 1948. She married Matias Chavez in 1948.
They were each other's lifelong companions until Matias' death in 1993. They were blessed with three daughters: Mary Ellen, Jo Ann, and Peggy. Mae worked at Sears in her younger days and spent most of her life as a homemaker. She loved cooking for family. Mae also spoiled many cats over the years. Her current cat "Monkey" will also miss her dearly.
Mae is survived by her children: Mary Ellen Guerrero (Paul), Jo Ann Bentley, and Peggy Deming (John); brother Harry Lara and sister-in-law Alicia; brother-in-law Larry Chavez (Bertha), and many other relatives and friends. She had eight grandchildren: Brian, Craig, Cody (Rebecca), Aimee (Drew), Jason (Barbie), Kaysie, Doug (Paulina), Carrie (Peter), and fourteen great grandchildren (Jax, Tyler, Chase, Sophie, Myles, Aubrey, Holly, Allison, Tristan, Taylor, Caden, Liam, Aleksandra, and Adriana.)
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Matias and her brother Art Lara and sister-in-law Barbara Lara. She will be remembered for her love of God and family. Her fiery spirit and endless energy will never be forgotten.
There will be a Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere, El Paso, Texas 79912. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt Rd, Santa Teresa, NM. A gathering will follow at a private home after the graveside service.
