Maria de la Luz “Lucy” Lopez, 95, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 28, 1930, in Smeltertown, Texas, to Baltazar and Hilaria Ceniceros, Lucy lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family.
Known for her warmth and generosity, she always placed family first, welcoming loved ones and guests with home-cooked meals and an open heart. She enjoyed music and never missed a chance to dance, whether at home or at celebrations. Her kindness knew no bounds, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Lucy dedicated 48 years to working in the medical field and was a faithful parishioner of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Her passing marks the end of an era, as she was the last surviving sibling of a large, close-knit family raised in Smeltertown.
She is survived by her five children: Pina Muela (Pete), Arturo Lopez (Maggie), Gabriel Lopez (Martha +), Josie Anchondo (Manny +), and Robert Lopez, Jr. (Pat). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren – Mike, Jessica, Paul, Anthony, Margaret, Jennifer, Jason, Amanda, Candice, Robert, and Clarissa – and six great grandchildren: Noah, Ezekiel, Alonzo, Samuel, Zachary, and Dominic, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roberto Lopez, Sr. with whom she shared 58 years of love and partnership. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Envision Hospice for their compassionate care, Father Esteban for his weekly visits, her godson Victor Marquez, and the many family members who surrounded her with love in her final days. A special thank you goes to her daughter, Josie Anchondo, whose constant love and care brought Lucy comfort throughout her last years.
Visitation will take place at Martin Funeral Home, 128 N. Resler Drive, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 400 W.
