María Teresa (“Tita”) Fierro Martinez died on May 11, 2021, after a long decline from the villain, Alzheimer’s Disease. While stealing her wit and taking her into a world of inescapable memories, it never took her laughter. Tita danced and sang on alternative days until the very end. Born in El Paso in 1930, she spent her early childhood in a Guadalupe, on the border near Fabens. Coming to the US at 11, she was put into first grade because she could not speak a word of English. And yet she succeeded, always at the top of her class, rising to become the executive campaign manager for the United Way for many years. Celebrated as a vivacious beauty, a card shark, a prankster, one who laughed easily and uttered the outrageous frequently, popular with one and all. She is survived by her daughter Annette Fierro, of Philadelphia, her son Richard Fierro of El Paso, and by the beloved granddaughters that she raised as her own, Kristina and Brittany Fierro. She is loved by her distant grandchildren Alejandro and Claudia Ashworth, and one great-grandson, Jax Jimenez.
A funeral mass will be held on May 30 at 12:30pm at Our Lady of Assumption, followed by a procession to Evergreen Cemetery (Alameda). Flowers should be sent to Martin Funeral Home, Resler. El Paso.
