Maria Guadalupe Rios

Our beloved sister and aunt Maria G. Rios “Pita”, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel C. Rios and Guadalupe T. Rios, brother Jose T. Rios, nephew David Rios and great-niece Salina A. Rios. She is survived by her sister Margarita Rios, brother Manuel Rios, sisters-in-law Cecilia Rios and Lilia Rios; nieces and nephews Joe D. Rios (Alma), Edward X. Rios (Terry), Lily P. Lara (Louie), Sylvia Quintana (Tony), Mark A. Rios (Veronica), Belinda Grijalva (Gabe), and Melissa Cabrera (Ralph). Pita will also be greatly missed by her thirteen great and fourteen great-great nieces and nephews.

Pita worked hard throughout her life; she worked for Kress Department Store for 23 years and as a clerk for the El Paso Public Library for 20 years. However, her most important and cherished role came in retirement as a companion and best friend to her sister Mague.

Pita was a woman of great faith who kept her family in prayer by praying daily rosaries and watching daily mass on her favorite EWTN. We knew we could count on her whenever we needed a special prayer or blessing.

Pita enjoyed her coloring books and seek-n-find books to keep her mind active. But most of all, she always loved when family would stop by to visit.

We will miss our dear Pita’s love, big heart, sense of humor and especially her joy of all things simple, gracious, and humble in life. May she rest in God’s eternal peace and glory.

A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A rosary will occur Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 11:30 AM, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette Ave, El Paso, Texas 79907. A graveside will occur Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas 79907.
