Nancy was a graduate of Riverside High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1987, and her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1992 from the University of Texas at El Paso. In September 1995, she married David R. Cortez, and together they were blessed with their daughter, Briana N. Cortez.
Nancy was a free spirit who loved celebrating life. She enjoyed dancing, concerts, gatherings with family and friends, traveling and road-trips.
In 2016, Nancy retired from the Ysleta Independent School District after a dedicated career as a high school counselor. She served 20 years at J.M. Hanks High School, where she was deeply admired and cherished by her students and colleagues.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Edward Bolick, her mother, Lucy Salcido, and her sister, Mary Machesney.
She is survived by her husband, David R. Cortez; her daughter, Dr. Briana N. Cortez; her sisters, Anna Garfield and Georgette Smither; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace in the presence of our Lord.
Visitation for Nancy will be Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a vigil service at 6:00 pm at Crestview Funeral Home, located at 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas, 79936. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am at St Raphael Catholic Church at , 2301 Zanzibar Rd, El Paso, Texas, 79925. The graveside service will follow at Mt Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas, 79907.
