Roy Weldon Jones, follower of Jesus, beloved husband, cherished father, grandfather, and faithful friend to all who knew him, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 3, 2025. He is now reveling in the presence of his King!
Roy was born on April 1, 1942, in El Paso, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Estelle Jones, and his brother Nathan Jones (Kay). He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy Lee; son, Robert Jones (Cathy) of El Paso, TX; daughter Lee Ann Richardson (John) of Melissa, TX; daughter Rebecca Helm (Alan) of Success, MO; siblings Charles Jones (Eva, deceased) of El Paso, TX; grandchildren Michael Montoya (Diana) of Flower Mound, TX; Caitlin Jones of Nashville, TN; Drew Richardson of New York, NY; Jack Richardson of Fayetteville, AR; Mary Helen Richardson of Waco, TX; great grandchildren Audrey Montoya of Flower Mound, TX; Jacob Montoya of Flower Mound, TX.
Roy served his country in the US Army from 1964-1966. He married the love of his life, Nancy Lee McCain, on July 10, 1965, while stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, he spent most of his career as an electrician with the Union Pacific Railroad. Roy retired in 2004 after 33 years of service. He also served his community as a commercial and residential electrician through his small business, RJ Electric.
While Roy had a very successful career as an electrician, he would always say that being an electrician is what he did but not who he was. Roy gave his life to Jesus at twelve years old. As a result, he led his family in the grace and love of Jesus Christ. Roy loved his family deeply. Next to Jesus, his family was the most important thing in his life. In his last days, it was important to him that each of them knew how much he loved them.
Roy reflected Christ in all that he said and did. He was a perfect example of how to be a humble, faithful servant who was saved by grace and lived by faith. Roy was marked by knowing God and making Him known to others. Throughout his life, he was devoted to loving God and others with all that he had. Roy never knew a stranger, always ready to minister to others and provide support in any way that they needed.
Roy loved his local church body and served as an elder at Cielo Vista Church for many years. He was faithful to share the free gift of salvation through Jesus with everyone. Once you met Roy, it would not be long before he asked you, "Do you know Jesus?". He was called to go throughout the world to minister to others. After his first mission trip to Grenada, he said, "My life is changed forever." Although Roy would travel across the globe sharing the Gospel of Christ, he would continually serve his local community by always helping those in need physically and spiritually. He would mentor countless men over the years, teaching them how to have a deeper relationship with Christ.
After many trips traveling the globe sharing the Gospel, God had one last travel excursion for Roy. On January 3, 2025, while surrounded by his family, Jesus called Roy home. At that moment, Roy was able to breathe heavenly air deeply into his new lungs and hear the words of Christ: "Well done, my good and faithful servant." It is no coincidence his middle name is "Weldon." Roy's desire and prayer was to finish his Christian walk strong.
Roy made sure to tell everyone how faithful God had been throughout his entire life. He is now singing about the goodness of God in the presence of Jesus.
"All my life you have been faithful, And all my life you have been so, so good; With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the Goodness of God!"
Roy's life will be celebrated at Cielo Vista Church, 3585 Lee Trevino, El Paso, Texas, on January 20, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, Texas, from 3:00-5:00 PM, January 20. Burial will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on January 21 at 9:30 AM.
