Born on April 8, 1937, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania to Clyde Alvin Kline and Cressa Beenice Kline, Roy dedicated his life to service and education. He joined the US Army in 1955, beginning in infantry, becoming a paratrooper, and finishing his distinguished military career in armor. He proudly served two tours in Vietnam and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 1976 after serving at Fort Knox, Wurzburg Germany, as an Instructor at the United States Military Academy West Point, Wildflecken Germany, Biggs Field, and finally Fort Bliss.
Following his military service, Roy embarked on a second career in education. He worked initially as an insurance agent while pursuing studies in Metallurgy. He later joined Hoover Manufacturing in plastic injection molding and earned an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering from El Paso Community College. Roy found his true calling as an instructor at El Paso Community College, where he taught Electrical Engineering, Welding, and Plastic Injection Molding until his retirement.
Roy was known for his direct and straightforward manner. He was an excellent teacher not only in the classroom but in life. One of Roy's memorable sayings was "Learn from other people's mistakes, it makes life easier" – wisdom he imparted to many. All of his children's childhood friends learned valuable life lessons and enjoyed many hobbies under Roy's guidance. Outside of work, Roy was passionate about competitive shooting, hunting and fishing, the outdoors, and spending quality time with his family. He was a proud member of the US Army Shooting Team and an honorary member of the German Shooting Team. During one of his tours in Germany, he received the rare distinction of being one of the only Americans to be given the title of Jägermeister (German Game Warden). He was an active member of Toastmasters and the El Paso Del Norte Gun Collectors.
