November 16,1930 – March 12, 2025
Ruth Alvarado, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. For many years, she struggled with multiple health problems, but persevered with faith and patience, along with the tender, loving care of her husband of nearly 71 years, Alfredo Alvarado, Sr. She was a kind, gentle and compassionate soul who loved her family and always found ways to help someone in need. She valued and cherished her relationships with all her relatives and lifelong friends. Ruth was truly a “people person.” If she wasn’t hosting a party, she would be participating in some type of social gathering. She loved being surrounded by family and friends.
Proud of her service to the El Paso County Elections Department, Ruth served as an Early Voting Elections Judge for many years, and was a 1984 Presidential Election Delegate for the Democratic National Convention. She was also especially proud to sing as a soprano for the St. Pius X Choir for 15 years.
Though in her 90’s, she remembered and acknowledged the birthdays of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her godchildren. In her later years, while her mobility became extremely limited, she, with the help of her newfound companion, “Alexa,” would spend hours listening to some of her favorite music from her past.
Ruth was a godly, virtuous woman, who prayed without ceasing for the people she loved. She was a generous and merciful individual who looked for the good in others. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
In addition to the love of her life, Alfredo Alvarado, Sr., Ruth is survived by her children, Alfred Alvarado, Jr. (Celia), Charles Alvarado (Irma), Henry Alvarado (Leslie), Laura Alvarado, and Rebecca Alvarado. She had 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
We would like to thank Dr. Syed Yusoof for providing many years of medical care and for guiding us through a very difficult process. We greatly appreciate Good Samaritan Hospice for the quality care provided by Alexandra (Social Worker), Claudia (Nurse) and Petra (Caregiver). We express an extra-special thank you to Marisela Avitia (her caregiver) for the outpouring of love and affection including singing Mariachi songs to help bring peace and comfort.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 19th, from 5pm to 9pm with a Rosary Service at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer, El Paso, TX 79904. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 20th, at 11am at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The burial will take place immediately following at Restlawn Cemetery, 4848 Alps Drive.
