
Salvador "Ata" Martinez, 81, received his angel wings on June 15, 2015, after a long courageous fight with diabetes and congestive heart failure. Ata was born in El Paso, Texas, the son of Maurilio and Felipa Martinez. Ata was a proud Bowie High School graduate. After high school, he worked at El lPaso City Lines, and then spent the next 32 years working for White Sands Missile Range. After retiring, he spent time as a bus driver for the El Paso ISD. El Paso recreational softball leagues knew Ata as an umpire and for his love of the Fox Plaza Barber Shop team. Ata loved rooting for his Atlanta Braves, but his greatest was rooting for the Chicago Bears.Ata's greatest devotion was to his beautiful wife of 62 years, Nellie, his four children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ata is survived by his wife Manuela "Nellie" Jordan Martinez, daughter Bonnie and husband Danny, Son Larry and wife Cindy, son Sal and wife Suzie and daughter Melissa Jo Davis and husband Will. Ata's strong Catholic faith prepared him for this journey to heaven. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses that provided wonderful care in giving his family more precious time with him. Friends and family are welcome for visitation Friday, June 19th, 2015 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina from 5-9 with Vigil at 7pm. Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 20th, 2015 at 9AM at St. Stephens Catholic Church 1700 George Dieter followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery located at 401 S. Zaragoza Rd.
