

Surrounded by his loving family, Salvador Baca Martinez, 101 went to be with the Lord on September 21, 2016. He was born on April 4, 1915 in El Paso, Texas to Jesus, and Jesusita Martinez. On August 26, 1935, he married the love of his life, Amelia Wiseman Martinez. Salvador was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and friend to all. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family, and eventually retired as supervisor from Standard Oil of Texas after 44 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed camping, and loved his cabin in Ruidoso. Salvador was a devout catholic, and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church where he was a close friend of Msg. Smith, and served as a money counter. On his 100th birthday, Salvador was recognized, and honored by the Mayor of El Paso and members of City Council; Commissioner’s Court, State Legislature, and Congressman Beto O’Rourke. A tribute he so much appreciated, and cherished. Salvador was preceded in death by his Wife: Amy, Daughter: Estella Gonzalez, Grandchildren: Yvette Gonzalez, Amy Melendez Romero, Georgia Henrie, Tom Kidd, four brothers, and five sisters. He is survived by his children, Salvador, Alice Castillo (Charlie, +), Marta Melendez (Tony), Betty Cano (Raymond), and Julie Apodaca (Jimmy), 24 Grandchildren, 63 Great-Grandchildren, and 31 Great-Great Grandchildren. He leaves his loving memories to his entire family who loved him more than words can describe, and thank him for the love, care and wisdom he generously gave his family, and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Benitez, and Dr. Shahinian for their professional care, and a special thanks to caretakers Sal, Jr; and Betty Rivera for their care, and devotion. Visitation: Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm at Hillcrest, with a Rosary at 7:00pm. Mass will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar. Interment to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery; Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Services are under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina, 598-3332.
