Sandra Ethel Thorne

Sandra Ware Thorne, 80, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. A graveside service will be held at the Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, Santa Teresa, New Mexico on August 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.

Sandra was born in El Paso, Texas to William Benjamin Ware and Barbara Marie Kubatz-Douglass on July 11, 1934. She graduated from Austin High School and went on to earn a degree in Education from Texas Western College. Later, she attended the University of Texas at El Paso to earn an art degree. Her career involved teaching for the El Paso Independent School district, Southwest Institute of Design, and El Paso Country Day School. She was a member of ASID and volunteered as an event decorator to many community events. Her interests included interior design, sculpting, painting and floristry. She cherished her family, friends, the neighborhood children of Tennis West who called her “Memaw,” and her beloved dog Arthur.

Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Don Thorne and her brother Jim Douglass. Sandra is survived by her daughters Katherine Marie Perry from Pennsylvania, Michele Elaine Wassell, and Jeff Wassell from Arizona, grandchildren Michael A. Perry, Ryan A. Perry, Justin G. Wassell, and Ashley L. Wassell. A reception will be held following the ceremony for family and friends.
