

Sherod L. Mengel, Jr. 86, passed away on February 22, 2015. He was born in El Paso, Texas where he grew up in Kern Place. He attended Dudley Elementary and El Paso High School. He was in the Air Force and served stateside during the Korean War. Sherod graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in business. He began his career with Paymaster Oil and Cotton that led him to Pecos and Lubbock. After a long career in the cotton business, he became a real estate broker in El Paso. Following his retirement, he became the Administrative Pastor for Jesus Chapel West where he loved serving his church family until he officially retired to the golf course.
Sherod was married to Sue Mengel for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, John, paMrents, Dr. and Mrs. Sherod Mengel Sr., and brother George. He is survived by his children Sherod Mengel, III, Terri Smythe, Gretchen and Gary Dickey and Lisa and Kevin Bond. He was known as Grandpa to his grandchildren: Jeramiah and Elizabeth Dickey, Riley Dickey, Zachariah Dickey, Hallett Dickey, Meagan and Steven Henault, Arielle Bond, Kyle Bond and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Hallett Luscombe.
Sherod's greatest loves were his Savior Jesus Christ, his family, his dogs and always his golf. He will be missed by the many people that loved him and were blessed by his kindness and generosity.
Memorial Services will be held on February 27, at 1:00 pm at Jesus Chapel West, 111 Sunset, El Paso, Texas. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa.
