

Thomas John McLean, age 85, took the hand of an angel, passing away in his sleep on January 3rd at his home in Albuquerque, NM. Tom graduated from the Naval Academy and was commissioned in the Air Force, where he served 22 years. His service career included the Vietnam war where he earned a Bronze Star for his acts of bravery. He went on to earn a PhD in engineering and taught mechanical and industrial engineering at UTEP for over 30 years. Dr. McLean’s dedication made him a favorite among faculty, staff and students alike. Tom's generosity and optimism remained constant and bright throughout his life and those he shared it with. He saw the best in everyone, and we, in him.
Dr. McLean is survived by his son, Terry and wife Terri of El Paso and daughter, Nancy and husband Ross Davis of Albuquerque, and his grandchildren: Matthew McLean; Tommy, Ryan and Audrey Davis. He is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Anna McLean; his wife of 57 years, Joan; and his three brothers Francis, James and Robert.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10th from 5:00-9:00 p.m.; with a Rosary at 7:00 at Martin Funeral Home, 128 N. Resler. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Luke’s, 930 E. Redd Road, on Wednesday, January 11th at 11a.m., followed by burial alongside his wife at Fort Bliss Cemetery.
