A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, J cherished his family deeply. He will be profoundly missed by his daughters, Edith Villigan, Lynn Munson, and Lori (Robert Wallace); his son, Roger Munson (Nancy); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his loving partner, Wanda Walls. He is also survived by his brother, Walter Johnston, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
J now rests in peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Sandra Johnston, whom he married on May 19, 1984. Together for 25 years until Sandi’s passing on February 20, 2009, they built a strong foundation of love, values, and family traditions that continue through generations. Sandi was the heart of the family, and it brings comfort to know that they are together again. J is also reunited with his parents, William H. and Dorothy (Frymire) Johnston, and his sister, Ellen.
J proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Stationed in El Paso, Texas, his military career was marked by commitment, honor, and sacrifice. After retiring from the Army, he found great joy in continuing to serve his community as a teacher’s aide in the El Paso ISD Vocational School, where he worked until his retirement in 2009.
Known for his steady presence, quiet strength, and deep love for his family, J leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion, and enduring love.
Grandpa J, you will always be in our hearts.
You will forever be missed and loved.
