Beloved husband, father, and brother Walter Maloney, 80, passed peacefully on January 3rd, 2022.
Walter was born in the Bronx, NY on December 23rd, 1941. Shortly after, his family moved to New Jersey, where he grew up the youngest of three siblings in Avon, Asbury Park, and Verona. He moved to El Paso, Texas in 1973, where he met and married his wife, Silvia.
Walter worked as President and Vice-President of companies such as A.P.E. and Sure Start, managing plants in Costa Rica and Guadalajara. He retired in
2007, but his restless spirit brought him back to the workforce. He worked as General Manager of Shelter Valet Parking for several years after and finally retired again in 2011.
Walter enjoyed traveling, karate, reading, and bowling. He loved going to the beach and being by the water. Walter was a Mason for over 40 years and participated as much as he was able to. He was a loving and caring person who people sought out for advice. After being diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and given three months to live, he made it his life mission to not only beat cancer, but to understand it as well, helping hospitals, such as M.D. Anderson with cancer research.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nora Maloney, and his sister Sue Schneider. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Silvia, son Randy and his wife Janine Maloney, daughter Tracy and her husband Ray Sloan, son Ryan and his wife Sandy Maloney, and daughter Meghann and her husband Patrick Morris, his sister Joyce Stewart, and grandchildren: Brandon, Tyler, Alexa, Ali, Nicolette, Aaric, and Connor. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Walter’s viewing and rosary will be on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home at 1060 North Carolina Drive in El Paso, Texas.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church at 2301 Zanzibar Road in El Paso, Texas.
A visitation for Walter will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915.
