Wayne Robert La Bier was born in Plattsburgh, New York April 5th, 1943. Bob, as he was known to family and friends, had a total of 4 sisters and 4 brothers; Judy, Bonnie, Beverly, Joyce, Leeward, William, Dale, and Ronald. He enlisted into the Army and fought in the Vietnam War awarded with an Honorable Discharge and Purple Heart after getting injured. Bob decided to stay in good OL’ El Paso, Texas because his big heart was taken by a fiesty blonde bombshell named Mickey who told him to go bug off and find a different seat at the Red Rooster. It was love at first sight for Bob, but not so much for Mickey. Every night Bob would call radio stations and request the song “When a man loves a woman” to be played for Mickey even if Mick stood him up. It took some time, but Bob won Mickey’s heart and they married, according to the marriage license February 17, 1967, but if you would ask either of them they always said a different date, so they could celebrate their anniversary for at least a week. They deserved it since they’ve been married for 51 glorious fun filled years. Kimberly and Timothy made their little family whole at their house on Courtland Drive. Bob had started working for the railroad and graduated from Texas Western College. About 10 years later they moved to Clint, Texas. While living in Clint Bob and Mick were very active in the community, Bob coached a boy’s baseball team and was elected as Mayor. Then they moved to Ohio, so Kimberly could attend Ohio State University and it’s there they got their biggest surprise, Kori. Shortly after Kori’s birth they moved to Van Horn for a little bit and then moved on to Fabens, Texas where Bob volunteered as a Firefighter and Santa Clause. Bob touched so many people’s heart as Santa and the La Bier House was given the title of the Christmas House. Even though Santa got mugged of all his candy canes he still loved being Santa to the local kids. After Fabens Bob, Mickey and Kori moved to Horizon and he became a Police Officer for the city working along side his son, Tim. While in Horizon City Mickey opened her own flower shop and Bob made an amazing flower delivery boy. It was around this time that the kids started having kids. Bob started answering to the name Papa and nothing brought more joy to his face then when his grandkids said “Love ya Pops!” TJ and Papa were the best of buds they did everything together, little did they know that when TJ started at Coronado Papa would become the official singing Uber baseball Grandpa to 21 Coronado T-Bird Varsity baseball players. Bob is survived by; wife Mickey Louise La Bier, Daughter Kimberly Kay Stephens, Son Timothy Carter La Bier, Daughter Kori Leigh La Bier. Grandchildren Kenneth Wayne (Kayde) Stephens, Kelsey Renee La Bier, Kolton Douglas Stephens, Kassidy Shea Stephens, Terrell Jason (TJ) Brown, Kayleigh Kennedy, Daniella Louise La Bier, and Katie Larrell Kennedy. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that you donate to Wreaths Across America in honor of Bob. www.wreathsacrossamerica.org “We love ya Pops!”
