David was such a special man. For years, he was the electrical inspector for Radcliff where I worked with him for 25 years.  He always was so conscientious to make sure the city had safe home and business electrical systems.  He was also know to teach less experienced electricians, rather than fail the inspection. More than one electrician told me that they never forgot the lessons he taught or the compassion he showed. (Remember: Electrician training was not available then and he also worked with other professionals to get electrical guidelines passed at the state level.) And last but certainly not least, he often spoken of his family and the joy expressed after a weekend activity with his wife and children. 
Unfortunately, I will not be able to be with you on Saturday but wanted to let you know what special man he was.

I am so sorry to hear of David’s passing. He and Don Taylor were good friends. They were together a lot on job sights as David was an inspector and Donald a superintendent. Donald always had the upmost respect for David. I also as Donald’s widow send my heartfelt sorrow for the family of David.

Uncle David taught me more than he’ll ever know. He was the father figure I needed in my life. My Aunt Judy loved him so much, she would always fix him anything he wanted to eat. Whatever David said, Judy would go with and if she didn’t agree she would make sure he knew it.

 I loved being around the both of them, hearing their laughter. Seeing both of their beautiful smiles. The way they were always so eager to help anyone in need. That’s just who they were. Good people! This world needs more good people in it, I thank god I had them.

Mr Viers,  Unc as some of us called him, short for Uncle Dave (not to his face) was a large presence to any electrician that grew up in the trade in or around Hardin County.  

I have done business all over the USA in our trade and have truly never encountered a better electrical inspector.  We have been truly blessed to have him here.  He had the best balance of enforcement and practicality I ever encountered.    He was extremely approachable but also had a firm enough grasp on the principles of electricity and the code to have a well established line which was not to be crossed.  He valued integrity and professionalism and built trust relationships with electricians.  I understand that if you did something to cause him to doubt your integrity,  you had to earn it back.   

David became my friend and mentor.   The last time I saw him, he stopped by my house on a Sunday afternoon not long ago and I would say looking back that we said goodbye.  

I am grateful that he has been part of my life for almost all the years I have been in the trade and I thank his family for sharing him with us.

Judy and David were two wonderful people that I was blessed to have as family members with my two girls Nicole Cecil Perkins and Heather (Cecil) Willams.  
I hold very dear memories of them and my heart goes out to the family and friends.
