She was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.
Lavern was the owner and director of Hardee's Day Care, which she operated out of her home for many years. She was a wonderful caregiver, treating all of the kids under her care as if they were her own. Many children that were in her care have expressed wonderful memories of their time there. Her philosophy was "start each day fresh with every child, no matter what happened yesterday."
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Hettie Nunley; her husband, George L. Hardee; one son, Gary Curtis Hardee; and six sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela (Randy) Tate of Moyock, North Carolina and Patricia (Ellis) Raine of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Faye Maberry of Carthage, Tennessee and Mary Spivey of Gallatin, Tennessee; and a daughter-in-law, Jill Hardee. She also leaves behind seven granddaughters and eleven great-grandchildren.
The funeral is at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Pastor Emory Riley officiating.
