Gregory “Greg” Lamonte Compton was born February 7, 1968, in Glendale, KY to John Carl Compton, Sr. and Bonnie Anita Best Compton. Greg was the third oldest out of four siblings, Debra, John, and Tracy. His educational journey began in elementary school in Sonora and then on to East Hardin High School in Glendale. Later in his adult years, he worked in Elizabethtown, spent some time in Atlanta, GA, and his later years were in Glendale with his Uncle Delbert at Best Body Shop and the BlueOval SK plant.
Greg or “Shug”, as his siblings called him, was laid back and loved his family. He had a quiet demeanor with a great smile. He was a kind individual who was known to stop and aid anyone who needed help. He loved to joke and laugh, especially with his nieces, nephews, and his dog, Oscar. Greg was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and has watched every episode of Star Trek. His smile and great laugh will be missed.
Greg entered his eternal rest on February 20, 2025, at home surrounded by family in Elizabethtown, KY. Greg leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carlton Alto and Naomi Brashear Best; his paternal grandparents, John Rodney and Anna Lee Horrell Compton; his aunt, Prince Best Ford. Greg is survived by his parents, John Carl and Bonnie Best Compton, Sr; his sister Debra Compton; his two brothers John Compton, Jr. (Shelita) and Tracy Compton, (Rubi); three nieces, Nia Williams, Denisha Black, and Kendall Compton; two nephews, Darius and Mason Compton; one great nephew, Kee’ Styn; special friends/cousin Jamie Bransford, Mike Roemer and James Dixon, and a host of other uncles, cousins, family and friends.
We would like to thank all friends and family for your thoughts, prayers, phone calls, and messages. We will have a burial ceremony later when the weather allows.
In the words of Greg and Star Trek, “Live long and Prosper”!
