

She graduated from Teresa Catholic High School and St. Teresa Advanced College.
She worked as a medical secretary for a physician in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, where she met her husband, James C. Barnhart, whom she married in Pasadena, California, in 1954. After moving to the United States, Lucy was naturalized as a United States citizen on July 13, 1956.
Lucy worked at the IRS Service Center in Austin, Texas, from December 1966 until October 1977. She then worked as an executive assistant to the chief army chaplain in the US Armed Forces in Korea from July 1984 until January 1987.
Lucy and Jim both retired in January 1987 and moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Lucy and Jim traveled the world together including the Philippines, Bahamas, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Okinawa, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, San Salvador, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean, Nassau, Hawaii, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Brazil, Austria, Haiti, Ireland, Japan, Slovakia, France, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, the Vatican, Ireland, and France.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Barnhart; her father and mother, Enrique Santo Tomas and Caridad Cruz Santo Tomas; her sister, Florencia Salao; niece, Donna Alba; and nephews, Eduardo Salso and Esturmio Salao.
Survivors include her nieces Macrina (Crinnie) Aguirre, Criselda (Elda), Airoso (Louie), Sarah Alvarez, Margarita Siochi; and nephew Roberto Salao. Her neighbor and friend who loved her like a mother, Carolyn Kifer Ritchie.
She is now with the love of her life in Heaven.
Lucy's service will be Thursday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
