

Margaret "Peggy" Ann Miller, 87, of Elizabethtown, passed away February 11 at home. She was born November 28, 1937 in Helmetta, New Jersey. She was employed by Princeton University for fifteen years. She married Mel Miller in 1975, and because of his job transfer, moved to Elizabethtown that year.
In Kentucky, she worked at Ft. Knox (ROTC) and twelve years at the Hardin County Extension Service as a nutritionist making home visits and teaching nutrition to special teens at local high schools. After retirement, she dedicated herself to church and community service work. Peggy was a charter member of the Hardin County MADD chapter, a team leader for the St. James Bereavement Committee, and was active in the St. James RIGHT TO LIFE and the KENTUCKY RESPECTIVE LIFE committees. She was a volunteer at the “Coke” museum, while open. She was on the start-up committee for the Area Churches Community Thanksgiving Dinner and chaired the committee for 13 years. Peggy was a 20-year volunteer with the St. James St. Vincent de Paul Outreach and a 5-year member of the Elizabethtown police CPAAA. She was a Kentucky Colonel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hurbert E. Richards Sr. and Catherine Macintyre Richards; 5 brothers, Norman, Ralph ll., Herbert Jr., Ralph lll, Weston; 3 sisters, Mary Beecher, Ann Speranza, Rosalie Tancredi; and beloved son, James.
Peggy is survived by her husband Mel, a daughter Jennifer Miller of Lexington, and a step-daughter Tammy Fox of Alexandria, Pa. She is also survived by 4 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides family and friends her love abounded for her cherished pets throughout the years, especially her little dog “Teddy” who will miss her.
Peggy enjoyed bowling, traveling, recipe cooking and walking in nature with her Westies.
The funeral will be at 11 AM Thursday Feb. 20 at Saint James Catholic Church with Father Charles Walker officiating. Visitations will be at 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday Feb. 19 and 9 AM to 11 AM. Thursday Feb. 20 at the Brown Funeral Home. Cremation has been chosen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. James St. Vincent de Paul Outreach or to Hosparus Health.
