He was born in Harlan, Kentucky, was a resident of Elizabethtown for 58 years and had numerous close friends through involvement with the First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, and the Jaycees. He participated in the Living Waters project for Central American villages that needed water infrastructure and ministered to inmates at the local corrections facility. He was an avid UK football and basketball fan and participated in many of the Big Blue Nation trips to SEC conference tournaments. Bill was very proud that he and his beloved wife Jackie had travelled to over 35 different countries together. He was an engineer, working at several companies and retired from the department of defense. He also served a period of time in the US Army Reserves in the 1950’s.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jackie, his parents, Roy and Judy Ball, sisters Marietta Rogers and Susan Clark, brothers Roy Ball and Bobbie Lee Ball, brothers-in-law Vernon Evans, Lowell Nicely, and Howard Clark, and sister-in-law Margie Evans, niece Pam Hyde, and nephew David Nicely.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, William Jr (Takako), Andrew (Karen), and Judy (Randy), sisters-in-law Anne Nicely and Tish Ball; four nephews and one niece, Jack Evans, Mark Rogers, Roy Ball, Dan Nicely, and Vicki Neely; eight grandchildren, Anna Hamilton, Jacquelyn E. Ball, Lindsey Akers, William Ball III, Ashley Akers, Johannah Ball, Bella Campbell and KayJay Campbell; and six great-grandchildren, Connor, Aoibhe, Kinsley, Kenna, Bailie and Ky’elle.
According to one son he would overhear Bill tell Jackie as he went to bed when family had gathered for Christmas ‘There’s not a bad one in the bunch!’. He will be greatly missed but all are comforted by the knowledge that he is at peace and is in the presence of the Lord.
There will be a private service for immediate family.
The family suggests donating to the Elizabethtown Lion’s Club in lieu of flowers.
