Elsie Cardella

Elsie Cardella of Elk Rapids, age 99, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Stephen Cardella, beloved mother of Joseph (Betty) of Tecumseh, MI, Sara (Phillip Maag) of Palm Springs, CA, Daniel (Donna) of Warren, MI, Mary of Rochester Hills, MI, and John (Sandi Breeden) of Atlanta, GA, daughter in law Sally Cardella of St. Clair, MI and sister of Jeanette of Port Huron, MI, grandmother of eight, great grandmother of twenty two, and great great grandmother of five. She was preceded in death by her late husband John Parrott, son Samuel, and siblings Pauline, Ruby, Margaret, Katherine, John, and Daniel.

Elsie enjoyed spending her winters in Florida, where she made many friends. She liked to bake and cook, and had a passion for breads and soups. She enjoyed square dancing in Elk Rapids and Florida. She was a devout Lutheran and had a deep faith that has cascaded through the generations in her family. She had a large part in bringing her husband to the church when they moved to Elk Rapids. Elsie and Joseph thought of Elk Rapids as their little piece of heaven on earth. Elsie loved parties and the highlight of her year was the annual family reunion that took place every August at her home on Bass Lake. More than anything, Elsie loved to spend time with her family and many grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at Covell Funeral Home, 312 Pine St. Elk Rapids, MI 49629 on Friday, October 20th from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be at Grace Lutheran, 16194 Wanigan Dr, Williamsburg, MI 49690 on Saturday, October 21st at 10 am with an instate time of 9 am. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Donations of money will be used for Lutheran World Relief and for the Elk Rapids Senior Center.
