

John was born on July 14, 1931 in Flint, the son of John and Ruth Ayre. On May 19, 1956, John married Maureen and recently said it was the happiest day of his life. He was a wonderful husband and loving father. John was a veteran of the United States Navy. He owned the Flint Institute of Barbering for over 30 years and had been a state barber board member and was appointed to the COPOL Commission.
John is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughters, Mary Ann Pajot, Cheryl (Albert) Werth, Martha (Steve) Poulos, Rebecca (Tim) Boggs, and Patricia (Mike) Weber; 10 grandchildren, Laura (Tony) Pezzuto, John (Lauren) Werth, Brian Werth, Daniel Werth, Greg Pajot, Karen Pajot, Chris Boggs, Sydney Weber, Jordan Weber, and Aidan Weber; and 2 great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Isabelle Pezzuto.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 4 to 7 pm with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7 pm at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. A Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army in Traverse City, The Arthritis Foundation, or you may plant a tree in memory of John.
