

Josephine W. Bargy 91, of Kewadin died on Monday April 26, 2010 at Munson Medical Center. Josephine was born in Elk Rapids the daughter of Vernon P. and Edna (Murray) White. She attended Elk Rapids School and Lewis-Chapin Business School; after which she worked for Michigan Public Service Company. In 1938 Josephine married Calvin Bargy and moved to Detroit. In 1945 they purchased a farm in Torch Lake Township and later the home farm in Milton Twp. Besides being active in the farm business with her husband and two sons she enjoyed many outside activities. She was a Life member of the Elk Rapids Chapter of the order of the Eastern Star. Active in the Kewadin Methodist Church as Sunday school teacher and helping with great dinners. Member of Crenvell Extension group of which she was program leader and chairman for several years. She was active in local affairs in Milton Township and also served in Antrim County as Register of Deeds and Abstractor and later as County Commissioner from District 3. In 1997 she received recognition for 33 years of service to Antrim County. She and her husband enjoyed and belonged to several Square Dance clubs and enjoyed traveling. Josephine also enjoyed reading, crafts, and playing cards. But above all her family came first. She was very proud of them. She is survived by two sons; Lawrence “Larry” Bargy and Lon (Ann) Bargy both of Kewadin, five grandchildren; Robert Bargy, Anna (Dan) Boals, James (Denise) Bargy, Kevin (Karen) Bargy, Michael (Dari) Bargy and ten great-grandchildren, a special daughter; Peggy (Glen) Kole and their family, one sister Betty Jane VanGorden, and three brothers; Versil, George, and Jack White. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Calvin in 1992, her grandson Wade in 1997, three brothers; Vernon, Robert, and William White, and her daughter –in-law Alice Bargy. Visitation will be held at Covell Funeral Home, 312 Pine St, Elk Rapids, on Friday May 7, 2010 from 5-8 Pm and Eastern Stars Services at 7:30 .A Memorial Service will be held at the Kewadin United Methodist Church on Saturday May 8, 2010 at 11am, Rev. Eugene Baughan officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Josephine’s name to the Milton Township kid’s playground.
