Carol Lample passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2022 at the age of 76. Born Carol Ann Murdoch on February 4, 1946 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to Alexander Miller Murdoch and Irene Muriel Murdoch (nee MacLeod), Carol was the oldest of five children and took that role very seriously. Her first years in life, at times, were rough as her family navigated economic downturns, a move from Nova Scotia to Quebec and then back to Nova Scotia, and the death of her infant sister. Regardless of some major hardships, Carol loved Nova Scotia, was proud of her Canadian roots, and credits her childhood experiences for the resiliency that came to serve her in her adult years.
After gaining courage from a new-found Christian faith in the late 1960’s, Carol decided to try her hand at an American life. In 1969, she answered an ad in the Baltimore Sun to be a governess in the greater Baltimore area. A few short months after her arrival, she met Walter Donald Lample. They were married in August 1970 and they shared a full life together until Walter’s death in 2007. During their 37-year marriage, they spent their time building a small family business, pastoring a local church congregation in Woodlawn, Maryland, and serving those in need around them.
In 2006, Carol moved from Catonsville, Maryland to York, Pennsylvania. She loved this season in her life. The pace was slower and the rural setting reminded her of her beloved Nova Scotia. Newly widowed, she met so many lovely friends who supported her at that time. She never lost touch with them even when she moved away in 2017.
Carol spent the last five years of her life being wonderfully cared for by her son and daughter-in-law in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived in a senior community where, even with frail health, she watched out for her neighbors; picking them up groceries and lending a listening ear. She was known for having the best door decorations and easily befriending the staff.
The greatest joy in Carol’s life was her children and their spouses; Samuel Lample (Krista), Andrew Lample (Imie), Leah Henao (Jorge) and her grandchildren Nathan Lample and Wesley Henao. She supported their growth, independence, education, and careers. She will be remembered for always having a listening ear and being their number one cheerleader. Carol was also the stepmother to Susan, Walter, Cathy, and Paul.
Carol is also survived by her sister Jeannie Griggs (nee Murdoch), brother Scott Murdoch (Sherill), and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Donna Murdoch, brother Robert Murdoch, and brother-in-law Doug Griggs.
A visitation, celebration of life, and internment service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland. The viewing will begin at 11:30am and the service at 12:30pm. Family and friends are invited to attend to remember and celebrate Carol’s life.
