November 20, 1939 – July 20, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Dr. David (Dave) D. Lombardo on July 20, 2021 at the age of 81 following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Ann Lombardo, his daughter, Michelle Lombardo Albert, his son-in-law John Albert and his grandchildren Katherine and Lauren. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Richard Lombardo, numerous nieces, and countless friends and family. He was predeceased by his loving son, David A. Lombardo.
Dave was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to Anthony and Mary Lombardo. He loved higher education and received a Bachelor’s Degree, with a double major in Political Science and History, from Albright College, and a Ph.D. from New York University (NYU) in Human Resource Management. At times, he worked three jobs to pay for his education. He was passionate about education and always stressed its importance to his family and friends.
Dave served in the U.S. Army in the mid-sixties before entering work for the federal government. He worked in Human Resource Management for the federal government for over 30 years. His initial job was with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in New York City, where he met his wife, Mary Ann Lombardo, for the first time in the elevator at work. They were married in 1969, right around the time of the first U.S. Moon landing. This event has always had a special significance to them. Eventually Dave was hired by the U.S. Library of Congress in Washington DC and he and his wife relocated to Crofton, MD to raise their two children, Michelle and David. Dave worked for over 20 years at the U.S. Library of Congress, rising to Chief of Human Resource Operations for 3,000 employees.
He later served as Director of Human Resources for Anne Arundel Public Schools from 1995 – 2003. He also had a passion for teaching and served as an Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Maryland University College, Graduate School in College Park, MD. He also taught at George Mason University Graduate School and for the graduate programs at Central Michigan University.
Dave was an avid reader and loved discussing current events, and after retirement, he enjoyed reading the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post cover to cover, every day. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mary Ann, and spending time with his daughter and his grandchildren. He had a beautiful smile that would light up a room and, although departed from this earth, his love for everyone will endure.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial for Dave at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228 on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00 am. His Interment will be held at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD privately at a later date. Arrangements were handled by the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., Elkridge, MD.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association or Gilchrist Hospice, Towson, MD.
