Edith was born on August 3, 1942, to Donald Knight Taylor and Edith Magdalene Taylor in New York. She graduated from Adelphi College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later earned her master’s degree in education.
She met her husband, Dr. Richard N. Scott, in 1960, whom she married in 1963. Together they had two sons, Richard K. Scott and David E. Scott. Edith was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Riley Grace Scott, Levi Alexander Scott, and the youngest, Alexandria Rose Scott, ages 8, 7, and 6 respectively.
Edith also leaves behind her cousin, Alison Davis of Los Angeles, California.
Edith began her career as an elementary school teacher, working in the field she loved. She also helped her husband establish and manage the Washington Cardiovascular Institute in Washington, D.C. Yet her most remarkable and enduring role was that of a full-time mother. She devoted herself to raising two lively sons and quietly served as the unwavering keystone of the family.
We will never meet another person who was more kind, more selfless, more thoughtful, or more considerate. The world may not fully realize it yet, but on December 1, 2025, we lost a true legend.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, located at 3820 Aspen Hill Road, Silver Spring, MD, 20906, on December 20, 2025, starting at 2:00 pm.
