To my sweet grandma, I will miss you dearly. You were an example of unconditional love and acceptance. I am so happy Kelsie and I had the opportunity to be with you one last time during our last visit to Baltimore last October. As always, you were dressed so well in a somewhat flashy but tasteful garment. I miss our phone conversations.. You would share memories of yourself and my mother and I loved that. I believe you are in a better place, full of health and happiness. I will honor you by being the best that I can be for my family and everyone close to me. Miss you so much. Love, Ben.

Grandma,

I've never written one of these before, so it is hard to imagine what is appropriate to say or not. I'll start with my only regret was not having the opportunity to learn more about you: who you were as a child, your heritage, what you are most proud of, your favorite adventures and the list goes on. Having spent my life geographically separated from you, it has been difficult to maintain such a relationship. However, it has never kept you far from my heart. 

Still, I will share some of my sweet memories of you. I remember anticipating yours and grandpa's visit. We were meeting you at the airport. I asked mom why she called you, “Chicksy”. She said it was because you looked like a little baby chick. As soon as you came out in your wheel chair with grandpa pushing you from behind, I tugged mom on the sleeve and said, “She really does look like a baby chick.” And that was the first moment I knew that I loved you. 

Another sweet memory I have of you is when you came to visit us in Washington some years ago. You had this wonderful way of escaping into your own little world while folding laundry or cleaning the kitchen. I would sit and listen to you hum so sweetly to yourself and you had no idea that I was there. It was the most beautiful thing and quite possibly my favorite thing about you; my sweet Grandma. 

I wanted to share one last thing with you that I have never gotten to share with you personally. I wanted to tell you that I know you have always loved me and my brothers and I am painfully sorry we had neglected your love for so many years. You and Grandpa sent cards to us on every birthday and every big holiday and I never understood that was your way of reaching out and letting us know that you loved us. Only until recent years did this come to my attention, and I have been eager to show you my gratitude and love in return. 

My only comfort is that you knew before your passing hour how much you were loved and adored by your family and dearest friends. You are always going to be that lovely, sweet hummingbird in my heart and my love for you will never falter.

Our condolences to the Woodhouse family.  We were privileged to be able to spend time with this amazing lady a few times when she was in the Seattle Area.  She always had a smile on her face and was always very kind to our family.  I know she raised one heck of an amazing daughter, which speaks volumes about her and her character.  We are so sorry for your loss and have your family in our thoughts and prayers, and are grateful for the time we were able to spend with you and Ida.
