I served with John in 1969 in 1st Force where he was the company clerk.  As a 0141 he gathered a lot of lettuce.

I SERVED WITH JOHN 1962-1964. I WAS ONE OF THE YOUNG PFC'S WHO HUNG AROUND JOHN AT "THE PUB" BAR IN JACKSONVILLE, NC
AND LISTENED TO HIS OUTRAGEOUS STORIES.  HE NEVER LET THE TRUTH GET IN THE WAY OF A GOOD STORY. HE WAS A WHEELER DEALER, I'M SURPRISED HE DID'NT FINISH UP AS A GENERAL. I LAST SAW HIM IN 1966 ON OKINAWA.  I EMAILED HIM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND SENT HIM SOME OLD PHOTOS FROM 2ND FORCE RECON. HE ANSWERED BUT WE DIDN'T KEEP UP THE COMMUNICATIONS.

PASSING.

I had the opprotunity to meet with John on several occassion during my VA career.  He was always very kind and helpful.  One of my favorite VA managers.  It was a pleasure knowing you John, wherever you are I am sure " Morale is High!  Semper Fi,

I was so sorry to hear of John Cole's passing.  I have been with the VA some 23 years now and every time I have been to Baltimore over the years, I have had the pleasure of being greeted with his famous words.  Mr. Cole was always such a pleasant gentleman and with his vibrant personality, he was always sure to make anyone listening smile.  He always brought renewed enthusiasm to me regarding VBA, and he will be greatly missed.  My deepest sympathy to his family.  I considered him to be part of my extended VA family.

I am truly saddened to hear of Lt. Col. John Cole. He was a wonderful man and always available for conversations and stories that began and ended with "Morale is high." Business meetings quickly turned to conversations of his beautiful family and "baseball team." My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.

John was a wonderful, loyal friend and an outstanding Marine who loved his family and his country.  He was highly respected and did for others not because of who they were but because of who he was.  He will be greatly missed but he he left his mantra "MORALE IS HIGH".

John was a hero to my father!  When I was a kid, I remember sitting and listening to my dad and John tell "old war stories".  Makes me smile!!
John, you have always looked after my father, bailed him out of jail. etc... I am know you are still looking over him!  Lots of love to Maureen and the girls!!

I had the good fortune to work with John and his top notch staff at VBA Baltimore several times over the years, and will remember our time together fondly. My condolences to all who knew John. Morale is high!

Mr. Cole is forever a part of VBA's history.  He was one of the first national leaders many of us in VBA were exposed to through his leadership of the Academy in Baltimore.  How could anyone forget that "Morale is High!"  As a fellow Marine, I was inspired and proud that he was one of ours.  I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Cole on numerous times throughout my career and he (and the Staff he developed) was always focused on ensuring that the training was top notch and worthy of everyone's time. I am sorry for your loss, you and your family are in my prayers.  Mr. Cole will certainly be missed.

To all the Cole family members,so happy we met up again with John several years ago at the 2nd Force Recon Reunion , had not seen him since 1964 when my husband and I were married in Jacksonville,NC.  This man did so much for all his fellow Marines, and Veteran brothers his whole life.  We will treasure memories of seeing him at these Reunions, and sharing laughter and old stories. He will sorely be missed.

John's infectious laughter and cheerful nature has always brought joy to everyone's lives. We know the family misses him terribly.   I will forever remember his enthusiastic words; “MORAL IS HIGH.” Those three words hold a tremendous impact and they will forever resound in my life.  I will continue to honor his memory.  The family remains in my prayers.

You are in my prayers, i know he will be greatly missed but always here in spirit.
