Pat Holsey, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully. She was born on July 26, 1931, and lived a long and full life defined by hard work, generosity, and deep devotion to her family.
Pat grew up in Pigtown and later spent many years living in Catonsville, communities that helped shape her strong values, work ethic, and straightforward honesty. Her early years, including time spent in her family’s corner bar and restaurant, instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for responsibility, loyalty, and community.
Pat worked well into her seventies, retiring at the age of 72. For many years, she was employed by A&P, which later became SuperFresh, working in payroll and benefits. She took great pride in her work and believed deeply in showing up, doing things right, and taking care of others—often quietly and behind the scenes.
Above all else, Pat’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of two children, Jay Holsey and Karen Holsey Mellendick, and mother-in-law to Linda Holsey and Craig Mellendick. Pat cared for her children throughout their lives with steadiness, strength, and unwavering support.
She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Jason Holsey and his wife Julie; Alysia Jacobs and her husband Danny; Megan Marks and her husband David; Allison Stirn and her husband Josh; Erin Mellendick; and Shannon Mellendick, who preceded her in death and was waiting for her in heaven. Pat’s love for her grandchildren was boundless. She expressed that love through her constant presence—attending school events and sporting activities, celebrating every birthday, hosting sleepovers, and creating traditions that will be cherished for generations.
Pat was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Hazel Jacobs, Hunter Jacobs, Jaxson Holsey, Jameson Holsey, and Lilly Stirn, who brought her immense joy.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all reside in Maryland, with the exception of Megan and her family, who live in Philadelphia.
Family traditions were central to Pat’s life. Sunday dinners, Christmas Eve sleepovers so she could be there Christmas morning, handing out candy on Halloween, vacations—especially to Ocean City—and time spent simply being together mattered deeply to her. She loved cooking and baking, especially her famous zucchini bread made from the giant zucchinis she grew herself. She also enjoyed filet mignon, crab cakes, Dove chocolate, Krispy Kreme donuts, puzzle books, and listening to country music on the small radio in her kitchen.
Pat was known for her calm wisdom, practical advice, and ability to steady those around her. She had a sharp sense of humor, a generous spirit, and a directness that reflected her Pigtown roots. She lived her life fully—present in both big moments and small ones—and encouraged others to do the same.
Pat is now reunited with her father, Roy Roe; her mother, Lucy Robinson Roe; and her sister, Betty Lou Haug. She is at peace, surrounded by love.
Pat will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, her deep love for family, and her unwavering presence. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the family she cherished so deeply.
