

Ruth E. Bennett, 89, of Columbia passed away peacefully on August 21, 2018 in Easton, MD after a short battle with cancer. Born in Frederick, MD on August 25, 1928 to John Samuel and Ruth Keeney Stup, she grew up in Laurel and Savage, MD. In 1946 she graduated from Elkridge High School, where she played basketball. Later she married the love of her life Howard E. Bennett of Elkridge. Together they raised 3 sons. For many years Ruth worked in the drug store on the NSA campus. After retirement, she became very active in Esther Chapter #47 of the Order of the Eastern Star located in Savage, MD traveling to many places representing the chapter. Sister Ruth held several positions within Esther chapter including Worthy Matron and served the General Grand Chapter as “Friend of a Feather”, a role she was most proud to serve. Ruth loved to cook and bake, she was always looking for new recipes, no one ever left her table or home hungry. Everyone looked forward to enjoying some of Ruthie’s famous German Chocolate cake at gatherings. Ruth had a love for the beach and would go at every opportunity no matter the season. She instilled that love for the beach in her boys and grandchildren through planning fun family vacations in Ocean City, MD. Prior to a beach vacation she would call playing the song “Under the Boardwalk.” But most of all she was a generous, kind, loving person who loved her family very much and was loved by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Alyssa Bennett, sister Irene Vincent, and brothers Paul David Stup and John Stup Jr. She is survived by her Sisters Dorothy Shaw and Adessa Harper, brothers George, Jacob, and Harry Stup; her sons and daughters-in-laws Mickey and Eileen Bennett, Norman and Julie Bennett, Gary and Rebecca Bennett, 10 grandchildren, Tammera Bennett-Smith, Stephen Bennett, Jason Bennett, Stephanie Stone, Holly Rose, Ryan Bennett, Christy Bennett, Ashley Bennett, Cesaleigh Gray and Cody Gray; 16 Great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many friends. Memorial Services and inurnment will take place Monday August 27, 2018 11am at Kaufman’s Funeral home and Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge where she will rest eternally with her husband Howard and granddaughter Alyssa.
