Sylvia was the first born of nine children to the late Robert Cecil Vaughan and Zebudah Johnson Vaughan was raised in Orange with her siblings and remained there until early adulthood. During her childhood she attended public schools and was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church. She was married to Jimmie Lee Walker for a number of years and then to Samuel Ray Blakey. She was the mother of two sons, James Lee and Charles Allen Walker; and one daughter, Phyllis Ann Johnson.
She lived and worked in the DC metropolitan area most of her adult life. She returned to live in Orange County Virginia for a number of years until her health began to diminish; she was moved to Maryland and became a resident in the Cherry Lane Nursing Center, Laurel Maryland.
Though the presence of one so dear is no longer with us; her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved and knew her.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son: Charles Allen Walker; one brother: Cecil Bobby Vaughan, two sisters: Phoebie Vaughan Beasley, Bernice Vaughan White; and one brother-in-law: James Jones. Those left to cherish Sylvia’s fond and precious memories are, her two children: James Lee Walker of Orange, VA and Phyllis Johnson of White Plains, NY; two grandchildren: James Jr. and Jamie Annette Walker ; one god-granddaughter: April Cooper, mother of Jamie and April: Laura Washington of Orange, VA; two brothers: Howard Vaughan of Upper Marlboro, MD and Harold Vaughan of Lanham, MD; three sisters: Patricia Burke of Elkridge, MD, Doris Fitzgerald of Jessup, MD and Priscilla (Jean) Jones of Washington, DC; four sisters-in-law: Barbara, Harriett, Catherine and Jacqui Vaughan; four brothers-in-law: Otto Beasley, Daniel Burke, Byrd Fitzgerald, and Gerald White; devoted cousin: Authella Gross, a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
