Wayne Maurice Browning

Wayne Maurice Browning, of Eldersburg, Maryland, age 80, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born to Wilbur M. Browning and Ethel P. Browning, Wayne’s early years of life were proudly spent in Laurel, Maryland. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Linda Blucher.

Wayne’s journey through life was shared with his Beloved Wife of 57 years, Sherron G. Browning. Wayne is also survived by Loving Daughters, Robin Steele (Kevin) and Tanya Huurman (Tom); and Cherished Grandchildren, Amanda Huurman, Travis Huurman, Lily Steele, and Alexandra Huurman.

A proud alumnus of the University of Maryland, University College, Wayne graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. His academic achievements paved the way for a distinguished 31 year career with the NSA, finishing in his retirement as an Assistant Inspector General in 1996. Wayne’s passion for education and mentorship extended beyond his professional life, as he shared his knowledge and expertise by teaching at the National Cryptologic Center.

Wayne’s love for life was evident in his varied interests and hobbies. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed following the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Wayne had quite a hat collection, and was renowned for his storytelling – often entertaining family and friends with tales they had heard many times before, yet always with a warmth and charm that was uniquely his. His skill with spreadsheets was unmatched, a true testament to his organized nature. Wayne was a devout member of Elkridge Baptist Church, and even dedicated many years to serving as a deacon and other various leadership roles.

A Celebration of Life for Wayne will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00PM at Elkridge Baptist Church, 5929 Setter Drive, Elkridge, MD 21075. A reception will immediately follow services.
