

William John Menard, 84, of Hampstead, NC, born December 16, 1927, in Racine WI, to the late William C. and Hattie Kuharski Menard, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by two sons, William Alan Menard and Thomas Mark Menard, and five older sisters, Dorothy Rowell, Dolores Goldsmith, Alice Lemke, Emily Jordan, and Marie Bakanec.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sylvia Uzzell Menard; son, John Michael Menard and wife, Suzie, of Hagerstown, MD; daughter, Helen Flippo of Riverdale, MD; stepdaughter, Debbie Zaydel and husband, Tom, of Mt. Airy, MD; stepson, Jeff Keel and wife, Wendy, of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren, Mike, Jimmy and Jacob Menard, Lisa Miller, William and Tina Flippo, Richard and Nathan Menard, and Natalie Mercado; step-grandchildren, Becky and Tommy Zaydel, and Julianne and Jessie Keel; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Menard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, the Korean War, and the Cuban Blockade. After retiring from the Navy in July 1964 as a Chief Petty Officer, Mr. Menard spent most of his life in Maryland, working for D&H Wholesale Distributing Co. (RCA and Whirlpool) in Savage, from which he retired in 1991 after 27 years of service. He and his wife, Sylvia, then relocated to Kennesaw, GA, in 1991 with Sylvia’s employment with Hewlett-Packard Co. After Mrs. Menard retired, they moved in June 2002 to Hampstead, NC, Mrs. Menard’s home state. Mr. Menard enjoyed the last years of his life living with his wife, Sylvia, in Jensen’s Coastal Plantation Retirement Community in Hampstead and enjoying bowling, golfing, and other activities offered there. Mr. Menard loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church in Wilmington, attending Bible study and worship when health permitted. He especially enjoyed supporting youth activities and mission trips of the church.
A graveside service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, MD, on Saturday, June 16th at 12 noon.
