Anna L. Diefenbach passed away quietly in her home in Ellensburg, Washington on the evening of August 30th, at the age of 95. Her husband Robert Diefenbach and members of her family were by her bedside.
Anna was born in Lovell, Wyoming in 1920. Her family moved to the Seattle area during the Great American Depression of the early 1930’s. She met her first husband, Roy Farrant, when Roy was working as a surveyor in the Roosevelt era Civilian Conservation Corps camps in the Cascade Mountains. They were married in Seattle in the background of World War II. They had two daughters and one son – Sandra, Laren and Roy Junior, respectively. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and she raised her children with love, self-sacrifice and affection. She helped instill in them a strong and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.
After the death of her husband, Anna moved to Ellensburg – a city she had often expressed a spiritual attraction to. She met Robert Diefenbach and the two fell in love and married. It seemed as though they had been waiting for each other all their lives. Through the ensuing years, Anna was loved, cherished and cared for by her husband Bob, and her stepchildren: David, Jane, Mary, Scott, Gary, Alice, Donna and Paul – and she returned that love in great measure. She made many friends in Ellensburg, both inside and outside the church. Her new life with Bob and her Ellensburg family was eventful and rewarding. Bob and Anna acted like love-struck newlyweds from the morning they met till the night she died. The depth of their love was inspiring.
Anna was a woman of strength, truthfulness, grace and acceptance. She seemed to love everyone, and everyone loved her. She will be deeply missed by those of us who knew her and adored her. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, but a part of her will always be with us. Her light will shine forever.
