Esther Lorraine Gegan

Esther L. Gegan (nee Hug) passed away suddenly on December 22, 2014. Esther was born on August 16, 1939 in Orange New Jersey to the late Joseph and Esther (Carmeli) Hug. Esther was raised in New Jersey and graduated from West Orange High School in 1957.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William A. Gegan, a son, Bill Gegan and his girlfriend, Liz Baziotis, of Ocean Grove, New Jersey, a daughter, Sue Whieldon and husband, John, of Leander, Texas, a son, Bob Gegan and wife, Kim, of Tampa, Florida and a daughter, Sandy Gegan and partner, Jeanette Diaz of Chicago, Illinois. She pampered and spoiled her seven grandchildren, Billy, Stephanie and Shea Gegan of Lake Como, New Jersey, Kyle and Matthew Whieldon of Leander, Texas and Trent and Fiona Gegan of Tampa. She also leaves two brothers, Gerard Hug and wife Kathy of Montville, New Jersey, Lawrence Hug and girlfriend Cheryl Sonners of Livingston, New Jerseyand two sisters, Barbara Hug of Bradenton Beach, Florida and Corinne Pansulla & husband Joe of Sarasota.

Esther was a lover of life. Her vibrant personality and genuine spirit endeared her to everyone she met. She had many friends, was active in her community and was beloved by all. She lived in Bordentown, New Jersey and Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where she was employed as a Legal Secretary prior to retiring to Florida. A lifelong collector, Esther delighted in everything from plates and cranberry glass to Beanie Babies and refrigerator magnets. She also loved playing all kind of games: cards, backgammon, and Jeopardy were just a few. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her husband, children and grandchildren. Affectionately referred to as Fe and Grammy, she was adored by all of them. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughs and will forever be cherished.

Services will be held at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park,1400 36th Avenue East, Ellenton, Florida 34222. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
