Laurel Kay Stodola (Skinner) age 77, of Palmetto, Florida passed away on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022. Laurel was born November 23rd, 1944 to Lawrence Skinner and Imogene Skinner (Crandle) in Rolla, Missouri. Although born in Missouri most of her formative years were spent in Bradenton, Florida. She graduated from Manatee High School in 1962 and later went on to graduate from Manatee Junior College. After college she moved to the Washington D.C. area where she spent most of her adult life. She was employed at IBM and worked there for more than 30 years and was part of a team that worked on the Hubble telescope. In 1976 she married John Stodola of Bethesda, MD and in 1981 gave birth to their son Matthew Stodola. After her time in D.C. she moved back to Florida to take care of her mother during the last few years of her life. Kay was a loving mother, daughter, and sister and always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a caring and compassionate friend and a devoted animal lover. Survivors include her son, Matthew Stodola. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Skinner and Imogene Skinner, and her brother Arthur Skinner.
