Marie Danko, age 89, of Parrish Florida, passed away peacefully at Birchwood Health Center on Monday November 18th, 2024 a week before she would have celebrated her 90th birthday. Marie was born in Homer City, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1934 and she spent her early years there and graduated from Laurel Lamar High School in 1952. She grew up in Homer City, Pennsylvania. After High School, Marie attended business college at Robert Morris in Pittsburgh and graduated as an executive secretary. She later worked for the State of Michigan and retired from MIchigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
Marie met her love of her life, John Danko, at age 15 in Homer City where they attended High School. They married in 1954 and were wed for 68 years before John passed away in November 2022. John was a military veteran, serving in the Air Force for 20 years. This allowed them to live in many different locations throughout the United States. They settled in Lansing, Michigan in 1966 until 2005 when they then became full-time residents in Florida. While Marie's husband was in the military, and was stationed overseas for 5 remote tours of duty Marie provided a loving, stable home for her children, making it feel like their father was not that far away.
Marie was an only child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Edith (ne Sipos) Obreczian. She is survived by her two children; Andrea Danko-Koenig (Thomas) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Michael Danko (Wendy) of Onondaga, Michigan. Her four grandchildren are; Martin and John Koenig, and Steven and Kyle Danko.
Marie enjoyed spending time painting in oils and water colors, baking elaborate cakes, crafting (especially jewelry making, flower arrangements) and singing. She loved to gift her jewelry creations to those around her. Marie and John also loved to travel. They had traveled extensively throughout the United States in their early years together and later on cruised often in the Caribbean. A few trips were also made to Europe to visit Vienna, Budapest, Venice and most importantly, Marie’s Hungarian cousins. Marie had a smile that would light up a room and could talk your ear off. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved her!
