June 20, 1962 - December 25, 2025
Marjorie (Margie) Mary (Hammond) Palmer was born June 20, 1962, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Patricia Ann (Murphy) Hammond and Donald Ward Hammond. She was the treasured baby of the family, the youngest of five daughters. Margie graduated from Carmen High School in Flint. She moved to Texas for a few years but soon made Florida her home for her adult life. Margie was always a hard worker. She obtained positions in apartment management and later in health care recruitment. While working she attended night school, earning an associate’s degree at Hillsborough Community College. In her free time Margie loved boating, rollerblading, biking, walking, and exercise. She adored her Italian Greyhound dogs.
She married the love of her life, William (Bill) John Palmer on June 9, 2012. They enjoyed traveling and taking their boat out on the bay. Her favorite trips were to Key West and to the mountains in Sedona, Arizona and Colorado. They made their home in Florida, first in Safety Harbor and then in Ellenton, and recently purchased a home in The Villages, Florida where her sisters Kay and Janice live.
Jesus reached down and saved Margie 14 years ago. She found her greatest joy in studying the bible and loved being a part of the Emanual Baptist Church Women’s Group where she gained so much knowledge, care and support from her sisters in Christ. She was passionate about studying the life of Jesus in reading and media and by far her favorite show was “The Chosen”. Whenever she could she shared her faith with others as the Lord commanded and always tried to save as many people as she could and bring them to Christ.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Joan Palmer. She is survived by her husband Bill, sisters: Janice Hammond Matthews (Peter Kaub), Karen Ann Linz (Geoffrey), Barbara De Ann Andrews (David) and Polly Marie Nelson (Rodney), sister-in-law Michelle Sayler (Bobby) and 9 nieces and nephews.
You would not know it by looking, but Margie bravely lived with many health issues throughout her life and with the Lord’s help, surpassed longevity expectations for ovarian cancer.
Margie had an amazing attitude of love and thankfulness toward her family, friends and all she met. She was a beautiful person inside and out and was a cheerleader for others.
Her strong faith and love for Jesus gave her comfort in knowing that he would take her home with him for eternity and will take away the pain and suffering which she lived with throughout her life. Margie will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Groover Funeral Home, located at 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL. The service is scheduled for January 13, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
