Sally is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Brian Duane Bustle, and their children Brian (M’Liss) Bustle Jr., Shelly (Ken) Burton Jr., and Bob Bustle; grandchildren Ashley (Blake) Miller, Chad (Kelly) Burton, Luke Bustle, Jenna (Ryan) Reid, Chris (Sarah) Bustle, Brooke (Kip) Krieger, James (Cheyenne) Burton, Sierra (Hunter) Brown, Kevin Bustle and Breena Bustle; and great grandchildren Kora Setter, Charlie Burton, Layla Reid, Magnolia Bustle, Clinton Reid, Kenna Krieger and Josey Brown. She leaves her sisters Joyce McCook, Kay Henson, Phyllis (Dick) White and is predeceased by her brother Blake, his wife Virginia and brothers in law Howard McCook and Worth Henson.
Sally graduated Manatee High School, Class of 1956, and was a proud Florida State University alumnus. After marrying Duane, they lived in Moss Point, Mississippi for six years before returning to Palmetto.
For 30+ years she taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades mainly at Palm View and Samoset Elementary Schools. She then turned a bonus room into a preschool playroom for her grandchildren who she loved to teach!
Sally faithfully served her church working in the bed babies’ nursery with her sister Kay for many years. A heart for Jesus, she loved mission programs, and often opened her home for Bible Studies, parties, and fish fries.
A staunch Seminole, you could find Sally cheering for FSU football in the fall and then the Tampa Bay Rays in baseball season. She loved to work in her gardens and used some of the flowers when entertaining friends and family. Easter was her favorite holiday and she stuffed hundreds of eggs with candy and money for her grandchildren to hunt.
The Whisenant siblings and their families gather on Anna Maria Island every summer. The tradition began with their parents when they were young and continues with their children and grandchildren. A fierce competitor, Sally loved playing in the annual Beach House Rook Tournament and won quite a few with her sister Phyllis.
Sally was a genuine Southern woman – charming, sweet, engaging, and beautiful. She was a born encourager, generous without measure and made others feel loved and appreciated. She was a devoted prayer warrior and her prayers are stored in golden bowls in heaven. Her sincere love and care for others will be missed.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15
