He was born on April 11, 1951 in Norwalk, Connecticut, and then moved to Woodbury, Connecticut where he graduated from Woodbury High School in 1969. He received a BS degree in Education from the University of Connecticut and a MA degree from Marshall University in West Virginia. Scott taught for 38 years in Connecticut, West Virginia and Florida. In the words of his students, “ You impacted my life, taught me to follow my dreams and to always believe in myself...I wouldn’t have finished high school and wouldn’t be where I am today without Coach Lovett ...this man was such an inspiration ...” In Florida, he also coached weightlifting and football at Palmetto and Braden River High Schools. Again, in the words of his students, “...I was working out this morning and all I can think about is the loss of a great coach...a coach who gave me the courage to succeed.”
Scott was predeceased by his parents, Stephen K. and Ruth E. Lovett. He is survived by his brother Stephen M. and sister, Judith L. Dorsett and their families. He left behind his wife, Josefina, daughter Kirsten Elizabeth, stepson Jeff Luera and his wife Patti and granddaughter Crystal, also stepdaughter Lisa Rodriguez and her husband Alfonzo and grandsons Jeffrey, Joseph, and Cody, and also Scott’s two dearest friends, Bob Bowling and Ron Judson. Grandson Jeffrey was devoted to his “Pa” and served as his hands and his voice for the last few months of his life. Scott faced his disease with grace and courage. He always presented a positive attitude and an acceptance that was remarkable. “One funny, strong man who taught myself and many others to smile, laugh and be positive. Coach Lovett made a real difference in the lives of hundreds of students.”
